Basic Taco Seasoning

Basic Taco Seasoning: Obsessed with Tacos? Me too! When life gets busy, sometimes I want to just throw something together and trust that it is going to be amazing.

This premade basic taco seasoning helps with that. Just add meat or veggies and you are well on your way.

Basic Taco Seasoning

What makes this one different from many others? There are a few staples that I rely on over the years and I can’t wait to share them with you. Also, if you’ve become accustomed to using the premade stuff from the store, no worries! I have a packet or two in my cupboard too! However, have you ever looked at the ingredients on those in-store packets? Some have red dye and others have small amounts of canola oil. So, it is nice to know what is in my seasoning (I should add not all of the premade packets have the red dye or canola oil, just take a peek next time you’re in the store to find out which one you use).

Ingredients:

The ingredients for this basic taco seasoning start with salt, pepper, ground cumin, onion powder, chili powder, crushed red pepper and ground oregano.

I also use smoked paprika instead of regular paprika. My sister introduced me to this delicious seasoning years ago using it to cover chicken and my life was changed forever. I now have many different kinds of smoked paprika. The one I use here is a sweet smoked paprika and I use it to balance the little bit of spice made by the chili powder and crushed red pepper. If you would like an extra kick, you can also find a smoked hot paprika.

The other small difference in this taco seasoning is the roasted garlic powder in replacement of regular garlic powder. Again, this adds a small bit of sweetness to balance the spiciness. I know from roasting garlic to make salsa that when you roast garlic, the garlic becomes a lot sweeter. So, I’ve decided to add it to my Mexican cooking and I haven’t gone back since.

That’s it! Enjoy this basic taco seasoning and I personally hope it helps to make your life a little easier around meal time.
