Taco Wings

Jump to Recipe·Print Recipe

This taco wing recipe has all the great flavor of your favorite taco sauce with the tang of your favorite hot-sauce. The recipe is so easy whether you make it in the air fryer or the oven.

Taco Wings

What is there not to like about chicken wings. They are easy to make and you can pretty much do anything with them. You can have multiple dipping sauces (my fave) and/or season with dry rubs or sticky sauces. The possibilities are too many to count. I also like how wings are built in appetizers, this makes them easy for a party and great walking around food.

I made this recipe in preparation for a party I was throwing. I had all the ingredients to make a good taco sauce and thought, what if I added this sauce on top of some chicken wings. After a few variations, this one is my new favorite. Now, I normally love spicy things, but since I was serving it to a crowd, I decided to not make them too spicy and add hot sauce later if I wanted. However, these wings are so flavorful you really don’t need to add anything additional.

To make these, I used tomato sauce, taco seasoning, hot sauce ( I used Cholula), Worcestershire, lime juice and agave nectar. After mixing all the items together, place half the sauce in a gallon sized Ziploc bag. Place the other half in a small container to save for after the wings are cooked. Then add unfrozen chicken wings to the bag, mix well and refrigerate anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to marinate.

Once the wings are done marinating, pat them dry to prepare them to be cooked. I make these wings in my new air-fryer but you also make them in your oven (375 degrees for 44 minutes until internal temp reaches 180). In the air-fryer you can cook them at 360 degrees for 20 minutes, shaking the basket to move them around half way through. For extra crispiness shake the basket one more time and cook at 390 degrees for 5 more minutes.

When the wings are done cooking in the air-fryer and still hot, place them in a bowl and cover them with the remaining sauce you made earlier.  Let them sit for approximately 10 minutes to allow for the sauce to dry. They are now ready to serve to your guests!

Enjoy!

Description

This taco wing recipe has all the great flavor of your favorite taco sauce with the tang of your favorite hot-sauce. The recipe is so easy whether you make it in the air fryer or the oven.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2.5 pounds of Chicken wings
  • 8 oz. Tomato sauce
  • 4 tablespoons of taco seasoning (I used Costco brand spice islands)
  • 2 tablespoon hot sauce (I uses Cholula)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon lime juice (a quarter of fresh lime, est.)
  • 1/4 teaspoon of agave nectar (honey is a good substitute)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix tomato sauce, taco seasoning, hot sauce ( I used Cholula), Worcestershire, lime juice and agave nectar together.
  2. After mixing all the items together set half of the sauce aside to use to cover the wings after they are cooked (sticky wings).
  3. Place the remaining sauce in a gallon sized Ziploc bag. Then take unfrozen chicken wings and add to the Ziploc bag.
  4. Refrigerate anywhere from 2 hours to 24.
  5. Once the wings are done marinating, pat them dry before placing them in the air-fryer.
  6. In the air-fryer, cook them at 360 degrees for 20 minutes, shaking the basket to move them around half way through. Make sure internal temp reaches 165 degrees.
  7. While the wings are extremely hot, place them in a medium or large bowl.
  8. Add the remaining sauce to the hot chicken and shake in the bowl to make sure all the wings are covered.
  9. Allow wings to cool and the sauce will dry on the wings. (roughly 10 minutes)
  10. Serve with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crispy wings, turn the air-fryer up to 390 when they are done and cook for an additional 5 minutes

To make the oven version bake at 360 degrees for 44 minutes. Turn the wings once halfway through.
